Michael Robert

CFO

Willow Lake Métis Nation

Meet Michael:

With a rich background overseeing companies ranging from $10 million to $250 million in annual revenue, Michael has honed his expertise in the finance sector. However, his true passion now lies in Indigenous Tourism. Over the past two years, working with Willow Lake Métis Nation as their CFO , Michael has discovered the immense potential for Indigenous people in the Wood Buffalo Region (Fort McMurray area) to share their stories and captivate a global audience. This initiative serves as a crucial step in helping Indigenous Nations shift away from dependence on oil and gas.

In collaboration with ITA, Michael is actively crafting a comprehensive 2-year plan for the small Nation of Willow Lake Métis to emerge as a prominent tourism provider. The nation possesses 205 acres earmarked for development into a diverse tourism venture, featuring a bison ranch, campground, cabins, and upscale accommodations. Numerous ideas are undergoing careful consideration with input from WLMN Elders and the tourism committee. The aim is for this small Métis Nation to gain worldwide recognition by promoting their narrative while honoring their cultural heritage.

Leaving behind a downtown corner office, Michael, along with his family, relocated to Anzac, Alberta, driven by a commitment to learn the Truth and actively participate in the ongoing journey of Reconciliation.
