George Michell is a proud member of the Wet’suwet’en Nation from Witset, BC and has dedicated his career to advancing Indigenous training and recruitment across multiple industry sectors.  

As the Indigenous Liaison & Recruitment Coordinator at Seaspan Shipyards, George leads the development and implementation of Indigenous recruitment and retention strategies for the MST/Seaspan Value Proposition project under Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy. He plays an active role at the regional level in promoting the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives. Recently he launched Seaspan’s first Indigenous Mentorship program and supported the rollout of the company’s Indigenous awareness training program, developed by BCIT’s Indigenous Department.  

George brings valuable hands-on experience from his previous roles as a general carpenter and crew foreman, as well as his time managing Indigenous training initiatives at the Aboriginal Community Career Employment Services Society. His work is grounded in advocacy and a deep commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for Indigenous peoples. 

George holds a certificate from the Aboriginal Management Program at UBC’s Sauder School of Business and is also a dedicated community volunteer. George currently serves as the Board President of the Ballantyne Project, an organization that empowers Indigenous youth from remote communities by amplifying their voices, creating opportunities, and supporting their paths to success.
