Freda Campbell is a member of the Tahltan Nation, Crow Clan and Dekhāmā family.  She has lived, worked and played in Tahltan Territory for over 30 years. Residing in communities directly affected by mining for over 15 years, she is committed to empowering British Columbia’s Indigenous workforce, driving innovation in Indigenous community engagement, and mentoring the upcoming generation of Indigenous leaders. 

In her role as Director of Community Relations at Skeena Resources, Freda established goals for the Skeena Tahltan Mentorship Program, including preparing Tahltan mentees for leadership positions within the mining sector and facilitating connections between mentees and Tahltan Territory, culture, and community. The program offers Tahltan mentees the chance to return to Tahltan Territory, often for the first time, to connect with their families and participate in cultural events. Furthermore, Freda spearheaded community engagement for Canada’s inaugural Section 7 Agreement and contributed to integrating Tahltan knowledge and culture into Skeena Gold + Silver’s Environmental Assessment. 

In her role as the Director of Employment & Training at the Tahltan Central Government, Freda Campbell created OnTrack: Tahltan Essential Skills Database. This platform enables Tahltan individuals to access employment opportunities within their Territory and enables the Nation to ensure that employers adhere to Impact Benefit Agreements (IBAs). OnTrack was designed to transform how the industry evaluates applicants’ eligibility for positions within the resource development sector. 

Freda Campbell was awarded the 2023 Indigenous Trailblazer Award by Women in Mining Canada, which recognizes and celebrates the contribution of Indigenous Women to the development of the Canadian Mining Industry.  

Today, Freda has ventured into entrepreneurship. With a profound understanding of the skill demands within the mining sector and a conviction that the Indigenous workforce in their Territory represents an underutilized asset, she has established Tatl’ah Training & Engagement—a community-driven initiative. Additionally, she is the owner/operator of Indigeweb, a software platform that is designed to support Indigenous nations navigating resource development projects in their Traditional Territories.
