Michael brings over 20 years of experience in the resource sector, including 18 years in oil and gas in downtown Calgary, where he held senior roles in corporate environments. Seeking greater purpose and impact in his career, Michael made a significant shift—landing in Anzac, Alberta with the Willow Lake Métis Nation. There, he spent three years developing a tourism strategy and implementing financial procedures and policies, helping lay the groundwork for long-term sustainability. 

In late 2024, Michael embraced a new challenge as the CEO of Sasuchan Development Corporation, the economic development arm of the Takla Nation, based in Prince George, BC. Tasked with turning around a struggling organization, he has led Sasuchan’s shift away from forestry dependence, focusing instead on building a network of over 25 strategic partners across mining, oil & gas, and construction. Under his leadership, Sasuchan is actively working to secure meaningful contracts both within and beyond Takla territory, ensuring economic opportunity and capacity growth for the Nation and its members. 

Michael’s vision for partnerships is rooted in mutual respect, shared value, and long-term impact. He believes that the strongest partnerships are not transactional—they are transformational, where each side brings strengths to the table and works collaboratively to create opportunities that neither could achieve alone. 

At Sasuchan, they have moved away from traditional models of economic development and adopted a Fort McMurray-style approach—building a network of strategic, non-competing partners who align with their values, understand the importance of Indigenous inclusion, and are committed to delivering real value to the Nation.
