Stephanie Sandy, elder/Nookmis)grandmother is a member of Chippewas a Rama First Nation. She is a mother of five children and a grandmother of nine and a great grandmother of three.  

Since 1991, I attended a wellness and spirituality conference in Tucson, Arizona. That was the beginning of healing and wellness. Since then I have been promoting and still to this day how important it is to take care of ourselves and to pick up what we can in our way of Anishinabe life. I had the opportunity to go outside of Canada and go cross the states to do awareness on wellness and spirituality,to our people on turtle Island.  

Presently, Stephanie is a visiting elder (Nokomis)at Georgian college in Orillia. Stephanie is on the Elders wise council with the indigenous resource department at Simcoe County District school board to date. Stephanie’s background was a participant in the creation of the Anishnaabe Education Training Circle (AETC)at Georgian College many years ago with BANAC.Barrie Area native advisory circle.  

Stephanie Sandy is retired after working 35 years working at as Native Child Welfare Worker 1986-2021 and acted in different capacities through the years in social services. Her education is Social Service. The latter part of her career she went back to school at Brock University in Aboriginal Adult Education certificate 2016.  

Stephanie has been involved in the education field and promoting the importance of providing exceptional education for our aboriginal families for many years.
