Stephani Carter started her career as a commercial interior designer and, in the early 2000s, identified a significant values gap in her industry, where environmental and social initiatives were limited to only a select few projects. In 2003, she collaborated with like-minded peers to establish the Alberta Chapter of the Canada Green Building Council, and in 2006, Stephani founded her own sustainability consulting firm. Since then, her firm has managed sustainability projects ranging from single-family homes to $2 billion healthcare developments.

Stephani firmly believes that sustainability is only achieved with equity and reconciliation. Through over two decades of project implementation, she has compelling data that shows if we engage people more effectively, clients can build projects that meet sustainability and social goals within budget. She is a Lean Green Belt professional, a PMI-Agile Certified Professional, and an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) Senior Coach. To date, all of Stephani’s IPD projects have been completed ahead of schedule and under budget, while also being high-performing sustainable and social projects.

Stephani has a keen passion for reconciliation. Through her ongoing personal efforts in reconciliation, she identified strong alignment between Indigenous values, cultural traditions, and the IPD approach. Over the summer of 2024, she partnered with Dennis Thomas-Whonoak of Tsleil-Waututh Nation to develop the Indigenized IPD Guidebook, which outlines how the IPD framework supports Indigenous communities delivering projects according to their own cultural norms.

Stephani has been honored with recognition from her community and peers, being selected as one of the ‘Top 50 Graduates in the Past 50 Years’ for NAIT’s 50th anniversary, named to the Top 40 under 40 in Edmonton, receiving the ‘Canada Green Building Council Provincial and National Green Building Champion Award’ and most recently she was selected by her peers to be the next President of the Integrated Project Delivery Aliance (IPDA).
