Sharon Ostberg is a dedicated Biigtigong Nishnaabeg leader, Council Member, and advocate for Indigenous economic development and self-sufficiency. Currently serving as a Senior Councillor with responsibility for the Business Development. Sharon has devoted her career to advancing opportunities that strengthen her community, create employment, and build sustainable economic futures First Nations. 
 
Throughout her leadership journey, Sharon has served on numerous boards and committees focused on workforce development, and economic growth. Her work has consistently centered on creating pathways for community members to access meaningful employment and participate in long-term economic success. 
 
Sharon is a passionate believer in Indigenous self-determination and self-sufficiency. She recognizes that strong partnerships between First Nations, governments, industry, and community organizations are essential to achieving lasting prosperity. This philosophy has guided her work in community development and economic initiatives throughout her career. 
 
As Treasurer of the Bamkushwada Limited Partnership Board, Sharon has played an active role in supporting the organization’s growth and success over many years. She has also been instrumental in advancing energy development opportunities for Biigtigong Nishnaabeg, helping establish the foundation for significant First Nation participation and ownership in major energy projects. Her contributions have helped position the community as a recognized leader in Indigenous-led energy and economic development. 
 
Prior to her work in First Nation governance, Sharon enjoyed a distinguished career with Parks Canada. As Director for Northern Ontario, she provided leadership for a broad range of conservation, partnership, and economic development initiatives. Her accomplishments included helping establish Canada’s first freshwater National Marine Conservation Area, fostering partnerships related to the historic Sault Ste. Marie Canal, and the city, all while overseeing, the management of Pukaskwa National Park. Through these roles, Sharon gained extensive experience in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, environmental stewardship, and collaborative leadership. 
 
Sharon’s educational background is in Business Administration with additional studies in Human Resources. She combines professional expertise with a deep commitment to community service and believes that the most important responsibility of leadership is to serve and look out for the well-being of the community. 
 
Known for her collaborative approach, integrity, and dedication to future generations, Sharon continues to champion initiatives that create opportunities, strengthen community capacity, and build a lasting legacy of prosperity and self-sufficiency for Indigenous peoples.
