Noreen Demeria is Anishanabe originally from Tootinaowazibeeng First Nation in Manitoba. Currently, she resides and works from Calgary, Alberta. Noreen’s background has been rooted in community engagement, empowerment and advocacy. The need for social justice and equality originates from her lived experience, but Noreen insists that advocacy is required in all sectors of Canadian society. Noreen is employed by Actua as the Manager of the Indigenous Youth in STEM (InSTEM) Program. In her role with Actua, Noreen is motivated to assist and strategically engage Indigenous youth in STEM. She liaises directly with both rural and urban community partners and network member programs, ensuring that they have the support they need to meet the unique needs and interests of Indigenous Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations.
