Matthew Nahdee (aka First Light After Dark Man/Bidoan Wazizi Nini) is an entrepreneur, advocate, and community leader whose impact spans business, enterprise, governance, and cultural preservation. A proud member of Walpole Island First Nation, Matthew is dedicated to building stronger, more inclusive communities through leadership rooted in Indigenous knowledge and forward-thinking innovation. 

He is a graduate of Western Law, as well as Osgoode Hall Law School’s Indigenous Intensive Program in Aboriginal Lands, Resources and Governments. Through these accomplishments is where he deepened his commitment to Indigenous empowerment. 

Matthew went on to serve as the Executive Director of the Can-Am Indian Friendship Centre, championing programs that uplift urban Indigenous communities. 

His leadership extends across multiple organizations. He sits on the Board of Directors for Pow Wow Pitch, supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs, as well as the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce and Family Services Kent, where he advocates for economic growth and social well-being. 

Matthew is also a successful entrepreneur and the owner of 11 businesses, ranging from sports entertainment to retail to development to hospitality. Each venture is rooted in community impact, youth engagement and indigenous values. 

In 2024, Matthew was elected as a Councillor for Walpole Island First Nation, where he works to advance the priorities of his Nation, focusing on governance, youth engagement, and economic development.
