Matthew Jackson is Vice President, Indigenous Partnerships and Business Development at Hydro One.

Matthew is a strategic senior leader known for negotiating meaningful partnerships that drive economic reconciliation and advance mutually beneficial infrastructure development alongside communities.

Matthew joined the company in 2021 and played an integral role in the implementation of Hydro One’s industry-leading 50-50 First Nations Equity Partnership Model, which offers First Nations an equity ownership opportunity in major transmission line projects that exceed $100 million. This model is the first of its kind in Canada and has been recognized as one of the largest steps forward on reconciliation by an energy company in North America.

He leads a team responsible for engaging more than 130 Indigenous governments and has built and led Hydro One’s transmission development program to secure new growth by ensuring First Nation ownership in the expansion of Ontario’s electricity system which will result in several billion dollars in First Nation investment in the system by the early 2030s.

As an energy-focused professional that has held senior roles at Union Gas and Enbridge, his more than 18 years of experience has earned him a reputation as a collaborative, trusted and results-driven leader.

Born and raised in the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation on the Bruce Peninsula, Matthew previously served as a municipal councillor in South Bruce Peninsula and continues to enjoy spending time with his family on Georgian Bay.

He has a degree in commerce with distinction from the University of Lethbridge and a diploma in Business Administration: Management Studies from Conestoga College
