Julian Hockin-Grant is co-owner of Allied Certifications Ltd. Allied Certifications believes that self-determining Nations should have the right to collect taxes from industries throughout their traditional territories. We develop certification programs with partner Nations to collect revenue for community-led development and stewardship projects. Since 2018, Allied Certifications has collaborated with Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation to develop the Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks Allies certification program. The Allies program certifies participating businesses as “Allies” of the First Nation for committing to upholding protocols established under the authority of hereditary leaders. This program has transformed the resort municipality of Tofino’s tourism industry, raising over $2 million for regional services and stewardship, and engaging over 125 Tofino businesses. Businesses are looking for a clear pathway towards respectful relationship with BC First Nations. Our programs support Nations to take the lead in shaping these relationships.
