Jim retired as the Chief Audit Executive Imperial Oil Limited after 37 years of service.  In his role, he reported to the Imperial Board Audit Committee and oversaw Internal Audit activities for Imperial and ExxonMobil Canada.

Jim has had a wide range of experiences in progressively responsible positions, including 22 different assignments across Canada and internationally. Positions included Controller for Esso Angola (West Africa), overseeing financial activities for ExxonMobil’s offshore oil and gas operations; Upstream Controller for Imperial,  Controller for ExxonMobil Canada, U.S. Production Controller for ExxonMobil in Houston.

Jim and his family relocated nine times including: Edmonton, Cold Lake, Halifax, Houston, Luanda, Angola and had four relocations to Calgary.

Jim is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). He received a Fellowship (FCPA) in 1997 and was the recipient of the 2024 CPA Alberta Lifetime Achievement Award.   The award recognizes Fellows of the Chartered Professional Accountants who have continued to render exceptional services to the profession and whose achievements in their careers and the community have earned them distinction and brought honour to the profession.

Jim continues to be an active volunteer for the Chartered Professional Accountants and currently serves as Chair of the Audit Committee for CPA Western School of Business.  He recently served as Chair of the CPA Alberta Achievement Awards Review Committee and as Co-Chair of CPA Alberta’s Energy Sector Advisory Group. He is a Past President and Board Chair of the Esso Resources Annuitants.  Jim is an active member of the Financial Executives International.  He has previously served on the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) Fiscal Policy Committee and on the American Petroleum Institute (API) Upstream Accounting Committee.  

Jim is married and has three children and six grandchildren.  He lives just outside Calgary and spends his free time with family, travelling and is an active hiker.
