Meet Jacob:

Jacob Dockstator is Mohawk and a member of Oneida of the Thames First Nation and received a traditional education from a young age. Jake received his undergraduate degree majoring in Indigenous Studies at Trent University before moving on to complete his Juris Doctor at Osgoode Hall Law School and thereafter his Masters of Business Administration from the Degroote School of Business at McMaster University.

Jacob was selected as inaugural Executive Director of the Sioux Lookout Friendship Accord Economic Development Corporation in 2021, Jake works closely with the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and the four signatory communities, Lac Seul, Cat Lake, Slate Falls and Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation (also known as “KI” or “Big Trout Lake First Nation”) to carry out a shared vision of developing vibrant communities and improving the quality of life in our communities and the region as a whole.

Prior to joining the Sioux Lookout Friendship Accord Jake Dockstator worked in private debt and high finance, managing a portfolio of over $200MM across Western Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.  

In 2020 Jacob produced a short documentary film titled I’m Not an Indian, which explores the history of Dakota Plains First Nation and one of Canada’s longest serving Chiefs. The film went on to win Best International Documentary Short at the Los Angeles Culver City Film Festival in 2021 and was eventually licensed to Bell Media and is available online through Crave.ca.

In 2023 Jacob was invited to join the Trilateral Commission as a David Rockefeller Fellow. The Trilateral Commission is a global membership organization that for decades has brought together senior policymakers, business leaders, and representatives of media and academe to discuss and propose solutions to national and international issues. Nationally there are 4 positions within David Rockefeller Fellows, these positions are reserved for those under 35 who show an interest national and global issues and demonstrate a strong potential for future leadership.
