George Kakeway is a respected Elder, residential school Survivor, and former Chief of Wauzhusk Ongium Nation, as well as a knowledge holder of Sacred Anishinaabe Law, the Manito Aki Inakonigaawin. As a negotiator, liaison, and protocol advisor providing guidance on customary processes, his contributions have been integral to the success of numerous projects in Treaty #3 territory and across Canada. 

George was a lead negotiator and Chair on the Bell Fibre Optic Transmission System (FOTS) project in Treaty #3, as well as a lead negotiator and protocol advisor for the Niiwin Wendaanimok Partnership on Ontario’s Highway 17 Twinning Protect. He was also the jurisdictional negotiator with the federal government and a Chair on the Grand Council Treaty #3 Governance Process, and has served as a special advisor to the Ogichidaa (Grand Chief) of Treaty #3.
