First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB)
The FMB provides First Nations with the tools required to govern their communities and manage finances. History: In the Spring of 2005, the Government of Canada enacted the 𝐹𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝑁𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝐹𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑀𝑎𝑛𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝐴𝑐𝑡 which gave First Nations the option to participate under the FMA. To enable First Nations to participate, the FMA established three Indigenous Institutions: 1. First Nations Finance Authority 2. First Nations Tax Commission 3. First Nations Financial Management Board The purpose of these institutions was to create a mechanism to provide support and tools to First Nations to strengthen their communities and build foundations for economic development.
