Roundtable: Forest Certification – Developing practices and procedures for sustainable forest management, and increased market access

What is forest certification and how can it support the self-determination of Indigenous nations? During this session, we will explore: the purpose of forest certification; pathways for Indigenous communities to obtain forest certification through the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI); and, how forest certification can help to achieve a diverse array of community, economic and conservation objectives, including a seven generations approach to clean air, water and food security. Innovative partnership models, including a recent collaboration between K’ómoks First Nation, Qualicum First Nation and TimberWest, will also be highlighted during the session.
