Dan Slavik is a biologist with over 15 years experience in socio-economic and traditional land use impact assessment, Indigenous engagement, marine and land-use planning, and wildlife co-management. Over his career he has worked extensively in the Boreal and Arctic regions, including Northern Alberta, NWT, Alaska, and Russia. He has a diverse professional background having worked Indigenous communities, energy regulators, and ENGOs, leading collaborative resource management programs and supporting the inclusion of indigenous knowledge into conservation and sustainable resource development. In June 2021, he joined Finite Carbon, North America’s leading developer and supplier of forest carbon offsets, to develop protocols and build relationships with Indigenous communities to better understand and participate in forest carbon offset opportunities in Canada.
In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations.
