Meet Dakota!

Dakota Brant

Chief Executive Officer

Sapling & Flint

Biography

Dakota was raised in her home community of Ohswé:ken – Six Nations of the Grand River, in a home without electricity or running water, and a large garden in the back. Hunting, harvesting and hauling wood & water were the staples of her upbringing that taught her to appreciate hard work.

Brant graduated an AGF fellow from the University of British Columbia with a master’s degree in Community Planning. She has been a frequent contributor to national media outlets and an advisory from Boards of Directors to Heads of State. Having 500+ engagements under her belt, Brant has travelled worldwide speaking on issues spanning the Indigenous experience in North America, capturing audiences with her active style of storytelling, keynotes, moderating, emceeing and facilitation.

She has shared stages with Katie Couric, Nelly Furtado, Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers, and Queen Noor of Jordan. She is CEO of Sapling & Flint™, a jewelry manufacturer specializing in gold & sterling silver.  Sapling & Flint™ is online, ships worldwide, retails in New York, Ontario & Quebec; and has a flagship location in the village of Ohswé:ken. In 2020, Dakota published her first two publications; a colouring book and a Teacher’s guide for Indigenous content inclusion in visual arts for grades 1-8.

Dakota has earned the distinction of the title Miss Indian World and the Indspire Special Youth Award. At home, Brant is a mother to a beautiful son and a proud volunteer firefighter with the Six Nations Fire & Emergency Services.
