Chief Roy S Jones Jr is from Skidegate Haida Gwaii and understands the value of working with companies for opportunities for his people, we need to be involved at every level of shipping and cargo, as a researcher Chief Jones understands the environmental challenges we all face in our global community and the role hydrocarbons play in our daily lives.
He’s the father of three daughters and six grandchildren and strongly feels that we all have to be involved in industry to ensure the transportation of Hydrocarbons and other cargos are done safely as well as develop safe guards while seeking out opportunities for the economic benefit of our coastal peoples, he says “I’m involved because we have to ensure safety comes first, “we represent the future of our grandchildren and their children who are not born yet”, the use of Hydrocarbons are not going to go away tomorrow we have to live with that in our time, only time will change that”
Chief Roy S Jones Jr, lived by the sea all his life, he was an infant on his dad’s boat Roy C Jones Sr and worked in many other industries as a young man including loading ships in Kitimat BC and Port Edward, married his wife Bonita in 1973, in 1976 purchased his first seine boat and retired from commercial fishing 22 years later in 1998. Been a seine boat owner Chief Jones bring to the table vast knowledge of the BC coast and the challenges that we face.
In 2015 Chief Jones was hired by Northern Gateway an Enbridge Canada project, that came with many challenges, including the disapproval of his Haida people, while working for Enbridge on the Northern Gateway Project, Chief Jones researched shipping on the BC coast and around the world and has developed a great deal of knowledge on shipping & cargo, all while working to ensure our coastal people can capitalize on the opportunities associated with shipping! In the wake of this Chief Jones was invited to speak in Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Prince George, Kitimat and Vancouver on the issues of shipping and its potential impact, Chief Jones was also invited to speak on Omega 3 fatty acids and shipping in China this year and due to scheduling had to cancel and has been rebooked for fall 2020.
Today Chief Roy S Jones Jr is the owner of Pacific Balance Marine Management Corporation (CEO) and the President of Aboriginal Equity Partners Incorporated with associate Mick Morrison, Wilson Brown, Arnold Bellis, Chief Elvis Davis, Chief Francis Ingram and him self Chief Roy S Jones Jr.
