Chief Don Smoke

Dakota Plains Wahpeton

Meet Chief Smoke:

I have a strong passion for ensuring the well-being of our children. I studied Business and Self-Governing Systems at the University of Lethbridge. I am a father to three daughters and a grandfather to five. In my free time, I like to coach hockey and fastball, and I have recently taken up traditional powwow dancing. Education runs in my family, with my wife being a principal and my mother and daughters working as teachers. I served as an education director for 25 years before becoming a hereditary chief in October 2021, following the passing of my father, Chief Orville Smoke.
